What the research on ARA-290 has looked at
- ARA-290 as designed: in the paper that introduced it, the eleven-amino-acid peptide protected tissue in rodent models of restricted blood flow and of kidney injury, sped wound healing and improved learning in rodents, and did not stimulate red blood cell production either in the dish or in animals
- ARA-290 and nerve injury pain in rats: in rats with a nerve injury, the peptide reduced two kinds of pain sensitivity for as long as 20 weeks after dosing had stopped, and the size of the reduction tracked the amount given
- ARA-290 in sarcoidosis-associated neuropathy: over four weeks the peptide significantly improved a nerve-symptom score against placebo in 22 people with sarcoidosis, along with the pain and physical-functioning parts of a quality-of-life questionnaire
- ARA-290 and corneal nerve fibers: in a 28-day trial in 64 people, the middle of three strengths significantly increased the amount of small nerve fiber in the cornea compared with placebo, and regenerating nerve fibers in the skin increased in the same group
- ARA-290 safety in people: no serious adverse events and no antibodies against the peptide were seen in a 12-week trial in people
