What the research on Semax has looked at

• Semax and growth signals in brain cells: in cells taken from newborn rat brain, the message for one nerve growth protein rose eightfold within half an hour, and a second rose fivefold
• Semax and a growth protein in living rats: three hours after a dose given through the nose, the amount of that protein rose in one part of the brain, the basal forebrain, and did not rise in the cerebellum
• Semax and where it attaches: it stuck to specific spots on brain cell membranes, and it needed calcium present to do it
• Semax and rats with reduced blood flow to the brain: those rats made twice as much of a gas called nitric oxide, and a dose of Semax stopped both that rise and the movement problems that came with it
• Semax and people after an interruption of blood flow to the brain: in a study of 110 people, those given Semax alongside their rehabilitation had higher blood levels of the growth protein and better scores on a standard scale of daily activities
