What the research on TB-500 has looked at
- TB-500 and the actin-binding site: the sequence LKKTETQ is the part of thymosin beta-4 that binds actin, and a 2010 review identifies it as one of the protein's discrete active sites for cell migration and new blood vessel growth
- TB-500 and cell migration research: in cell-migration and vessel-sprouting tests, researchers reported near-identical activity at around 50 nanomolar for the seven-amino-acid sequence and the full-length protein, with shortened versions of the sequence inactive
- TB-500 and wound healing research: in aged mice with skin wounds, researchers reported that a seven-amino-acid version promoted repair comparable to that seen with the full-length protein
- TB-500 metabolism research: tracked in horses and in rats, where researchers identified the capped peptide down to hundredths of a nanogram per millilitre, named its early and late breakdown products, one of which was still detectable at 72 hours, and found no cell toxicity
